Quality & EU Compliance

Our frozen Mauritanian octopus is exported in full compliance with European Union food safety standards. From capture to delivery, every step is controlled to guarantee a consistent, traceable product that meets the requirements of your quality department.

Our B2B quality commitments

Food safety

Octopus is processed in facilities approved by Mauritanian authorities and recognised by the European Union. Each batch undergoes microbiological and physicochemical checks before shipment.

Our processes follow HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) principles, ensuring product safety from landing to freezing.

Cold chain integrity

Octopus is frozen immediately after processing at temperatures below -18°C. The cold chain is maintained throughout transport, from the processing plant to the European port of destination.

Each refrigerated container is equipped with a temperature recorder. Records are available on request for your logistics and quality teams.

Batch traceability

Every carton is identified with a unique batch number allowing full traceability back to the fishing vessel, FAO zone 34, capture date and processing plant.

This level of traceability meets the requirements of EU Regulation EC 1224/2009 on the traceability of fishery products imported into Europe.

EU compliance & export documentation

We provide all documents required for importation into Europe: EU-model health certificate, certificate of origin, EUR.1 document, packing list and commercial invoice.

Our veterinary certificates are issued according to the official models recognised by the European Commission for fishery products originating from Mauritania.

Step-by-step quality control process

  • At capture: selection of licensed vessels operating within the Mauritanian EEZ (FAO zone 34).
  • At landing: port health inspection, batch data registration and official weighing.
  • In the plant: grading by size T1–T7, cleaning according to format (whole, tentacles, cleaned), IQF or Block freezing at -18°C minimum.
  • At packing: controlled glazing, compliant labelling (species, zone, production method, dates), batch identification.
  • At export: full document check, temperature verification before container loading, official sealing.
  • On EU arrival: export documents transmitted in advance to facilitate anticipated customs and veterinary clearance at the EU entry point.

Frequently asked questions about quality

Are your products certified for import into Europe?

Yes. Mauritania is on the list of third countries authorised to export fishery products to the EU. Our partner plants hold the necessary approvals and our veterinary certificates follow the official models required by European regulations.

Can I obtain product data sheets and batch analyses?

Yes, on request. We can provide product data sheets (composition, nutritional values, allergens) as well as microbiological analysis results for each ordered batch.

What is the shelf life (BBD/MHD) of the frozen octopus?

The best-before date is generally set at 24 months from the production date for octopus frozen at -18°C, in line with industry best practices.
